Day 1 - Lets Get Started
The Rally has arrived .....
The run from Perth to Bali ... departed with Garuda at 8am with about 120 other
passengers in a 737- 400 with a great deal of leg room. Arrived with bourbon in
hand
at 11.30am, slipped through customs with ease. ( some slight interest in the emergency
travel food, Australian Chunky Steak Pies supplied a bribes for Harry Hack-Around,
but
no major drama )
Spot the relieved look on these unsuspecting fellow passengers ( in foreground )
as they finally escape the horror flight !
Harry Hack-Around was standing by with the pace car to transport
the crew to the
appointed central Kuta accommodation.
(ED Note: .. the European Pit Crew Girls seemed to have missed the appointment
?)
Bali put on a wonderful day with 28C and a little humidity. So after doing check
in
formalities it was off to survey the layout of the streets ( on foot at this stage
)
We did the walk thru central Kuta and I have to say it is the quietest I have
ever seen.
Our photo (will be here soon) from Kuta Square looking towards Bemo cnr will show.
A great deal of security is around Kuta, they even have "Beach Polici" in golf carts.
The place feels safer now than any time in the last 10years I have visited.
We've scored a Jimny! .. was the cry from Andretti
Scrutineering has been carried out by a number of guests at Bali Cyber Cafe, over
a
number of Bintangs, quite a number in fact. The selection of the Jimny has passed
but the crew seems to be a little under the weather. (Damn you Andretti... no
more beers
was the cry from the inexperienced Flag Marshal !)
We have got a fantastic Jimny Hired at a cost of rp 90,000 per day with
full insurance an a excess waver down to $250 from $1000.
( What !! no 20,000rp Jimny's to be hired Andretti! ... shame shame - Navigator
)
After a quite shake down run around the surrounds of Kuta / Legian and visiting
a
few places Rally Pace Notes are now updated !
Back to the Cyber Cafe for a sumptuous feed of fabulous local cuisine ( and of
course more cold Bintangs )
Off for a quick run and report from on the Seminyak club area after dinner.
Stay tuned.
