Day 3 - Lovina to Pacung (Via Crackers Bar & Grill )
A slow start to Day 3 ....
Various team members opting for "a little sleep-in" .. something about bad "Tea"
.... not quite sure .. may have been some local water in the drinks causing a virus !
A great outlook across the beach from the rear of the Hotel pool area ... a local
boat owner was very keen to get some people out fishing with him .. sorry no time
A small side excursion to the Hot Springs close to Lovina was undertaken by several
of the crews. Early morning is the best time before the majority of the other tourists
and locals frequent the springs. Very nice surroundings and general vista.
A relaxing time was had in the warm thermal waters of the hot springs. Time enough to
loosen weary muscles and aches.
Along the way to the spring we found that local stall owners are still keeping young monkeys
to attract tourists to their stalls. They insisted that they were all orphans and that
they were just looking after them. Not so sure about this as the little ones seemed very
hungry when offered small bananas !! ( it was approx 4mths old )
Soon the rest of the crew were packed and ready to move out for the big run to
Crackers Bar & Grill at Candi Kuning Markets ....
The race was on again ..... the Hostage crew tried to make a quick getaway but were quickly
re-capture by Team 1 ... . nice try Harry but we are on to you
A fairly quick run through the mountains to Candi Kuning markets. Nav came up with some
interesting road games ... pass the trailing streamer between cars on a mountain road
A bit tricky but all crews soon got the hang of it ...
The Rally arrives at Crackers Bar and Grill .... a very big event for the Candi Kuning
Markets and the locals in general. Much sirens lights, sounding of car horns etc as the
2005 Rally takes over the car park. Everyone had turned out to "Well Come" the crew !!
As promised by Cracker ... the Bar was operational and was officially host the the thirsty
crew from Bali Rally 2005. A magnificent effort by all involved with the construction
had been put in to ensure the bar was stocked with ice cold Bintangs, comfy seating and
many smiling staff. "Well done guys" it is truly a work of art and a true Oasis !
The bar should bring a smile to many a weary husband, boyfriend or partner that has been
"shopped out" through many markets. Such a good place to sit back and simply let time
pass by as your partner continues to spread their wealth amongst the Market Stalls !!
The construction of the famous Dunnies are well underway ... these are located
at the front of Crackers Bar, a very short hop across the water feature & you are there
Another big part of the visit to Crackers Bar & Grill was the placing of Trophy's& Tankards
Team1 duly placed there much prized tankards into the care of staff at Crackers Bar. A short
wait as the tankards were chilled down and then as promised they were dutifully filled with
Ice Cold Bintang ... Cheers Cracker and Crew ... it was fantastic.
Remember ... the deal is .. take along your tankard to Crackers (best to get it engraved
or named in some way), and each time you use it for your Bintang you get discount Bintang!
So simple ..... leave it there afterwards & the staff will look after it until your next visit
Time came to place various trophies and entrust them to the ‘Wall of Yesterdays Heroes’
Now there were some very significant trophies donated by various members of the Crews on
the Rally. A most cherished Hat was donated by Jim. This was much a kin to parting with
a very dear friend ... well done Jim !
A close runner up would have to have been the donation of his "Mr Nude Australia" award
by our own Andretti. All those present agree that this must have been a very old award indeed
Navigator not to be outdone donated his "1983 Perth to Bali Orienteering Championship" trophy
Rumor has it (according to the Nav ) that this 1983 course was completed with nothing more that a
rusty nail and a piece of string for a compass .... well done Nav !
The Bintang and Bulls**t flowed freely for the next hour or so .... and so it should
at any Bar worth it money ! Overall a very successful opening to Crackers ! .. CBE
But there was more to come ..... it was onto Pacung for the much anticipated nights
entertainment. So with very fond memories we left Crackers Bar & Grill for the short
run to Pacung Indah. But be warned ... we will be back .. real soon !
A very short drive and all crews arrived safely at Pacung ... Team Pacung very happy to be
home after the riggers of the last few days. As usual at Pacung a very warm and hospitable
welcome was afforded to all Rally Crew members.
Rally Crews and supports settled into there sumptuous accommodation, (you must visit and
stay at Pacung Indah if you get the chance), and rested in readiness for the nights entertainment
Team Cracker headed 5min down the road to their mountain Villa ... see you tonight guys.
