Ready to Race

Day 2 - Medewi to Lovina

A leisurely start to Day 2

After a quite breakfast along the beach front at Medewi Beach Cottages to Rally Crew
made plans for the days activities and journey to Lovina.

A grey morning at Medewi with early morning surfers and fishing boats returning to the
beach. Well not really a beach .. more your rocky outcrop with grains of sand ranging
from golf ball to bowling ball size. But very picturesque none the less.

A wet start for Day2 .. all crews assembled there cars and prepared for the run down
the coast and onto Lovina.

The many locals very confused as to all the fuss and particularly the Polisi presence in
their small part of paradise.
Speaking of Polisi ... the boys were a little slower with the hand/arm signals today.
It seems that after much intensive swimming training, in the pool the previous afternoon,
the arms were a little sore. But they have a much better grasp of different swimming strokes
and may even try out now for the next Olympics with the Bali national swimming team (good on ya boys)

OK .. . the cars jostled for starting positions with Andretti reluctantly opting to take
up a spot further back in the field. Probably some cunning plan in this move but it gives
the other cars a chance to experience the Polisi Blue Light show along the way.
With lights flashing and siren blazing we were off again ....

The roads were wet and the speed was some what reduced as we move along the coast.
Team1's Feroza was hot on the tail of the Hostage Jimny to make sure there was not escape.

Following the Hostage car

A few small water hazards along the way had the cars slowing down ... particularly those with
shiny new transports. Something about ... "I know there is a big pot hole in that puddle
somewhere ... I just can't see it under 300mm of muddy water" ... no major dramas though.

Andretti's stay at the back of the field was very short lived .... just not used to being
anywhere but first. Some interesting overtaking maneuvers started ... then it was on for all
the other crews to show there overtaking skills. What's this screamed Andretti ... "a real challenge"

Team "Hostage" with the underpowered Jimny was occasionally pushed forward with the threat
of the Team1 Rubber Chicken looming in the rear view mirror !

A couple of roadside pit stops along the way. Just enough time to assist with some
localised irrigation of some roadside plantations .. aahhhh .. Bintang all gone

A quick road stop ... traffic no problemYes Andretti .. we know were you've been !

Moving on from the impromptu pitstop the weather again cleared and we headed for Lovina
By this time all crews had mastered the art of passing .... much to the delight of the Polisi
Escort who now had difficulty in know just who was behind them at any one time.

Ground breaking speeds were achieved on this leg .. without the fear of getting the
occasional cigarette or coffee fine from "Local Polisi" we peak at approx 88kmh !! Huge !!

We cruised on into Lovina with the usual no Red Light stops, no traffic jam stops,
just a straight through Lights and Siren run to a beach stop

Quiet streets of LovinaArrival at Lovina Beach front

We settled in for a good local lunch at the Kakatua Rest .. making sure of course everyone
knew the crew was in town buy "flying the banner" in the dining room. Good food enjoyed by
all at reasonable prices. Would recommend a visit when you are in Lovina Beach

At Lovina beach Team Cracker's forces are boosted with the arrival of Rae and the rest
of the Tin Lids after a short rest & recovery stay over in Legian .....

Now after lunch the local Rest owners were heard to be complaining about a shortage of there
finest silver cutlery from around the dining room !!
Andretti ... known for his flair at souveniring along the way ... now was the subject
of some very personalised "scrutineering" by our accompanying Polisi

Andretti get the search treatmentAndretti get a warning

After a brief warning and no silver to be found Andretti was let off with a warning...

We checked into to the nights Hotel accom, found the pool/pool bar and cooled off with
quite a few Bintangs and cocktails ....

The local hawkers were every present at the beach front wall and were very keen to catch
the eye of anyone who may look there way. An opportunity for some of the crew to take up a
bit of retail therapy ( local pearls, paintings, t-shirts etc) while relaxing about the pool
area. A few crew opted for "Massage" to relieve the day tension ... Andretti was as always
keen to find the massage with happy ending ... but the the locals were very reluctant !!

That night the various crews opted for sundry dining locations around Lovina Beach
Team 1 and several other crews headed back to Lovina Beach front to try the local Warung food
While other decided to play a game of "let try the Hotel Long Island Tea" game ....
Both appeared to be an absolute success ... although the Long Island Tea team did seem to
excel particularly in their efforts .... this efforts actually resulted in the Rally PFD award being
presented to a Team Pacung member ... congrats ...

Another notable event of the night was stopping of the sundry Bali Rally Crew on there return
trip from Lovina central to the Hotel. Seems that the local Polisi had set up a major road side
check outside "Volcano Nightclub". Both sides of the road blocked with many uniformed and plain
clothed Police searching all cars and bikes for sundry contraband.

After a short delay and all Rally cars being searched we were on our way ... we were our local escorts when we needed them, (they were actually having a well earned rest at the Hotel)
.. oh well a minor delay and we were on our way ...

We wrapped up the night and settled down for a rest before the next days event ...
